The Hecker tomato was found in 2019 by variety rescuers from Genbänkle e.V. at a family from Backnang, who have been growing it for more than 50 years. The plant, which can grow up to 2 m tall, produces red fruits weighing approx 20 g with a burst-resistant skin and can be grown as a pole tomato with multiple shoots. The Hecker tomato has a good yield but is less sweet, compared to other cocktail tomatoes.
